How to reduce lagg & increase internet speed for better gameing(Vista & 7)
I have a verry slow internet connection, 256kb's and could hardly get into a game let alone play with no lagg until i did this. This will drasticly reduce lagg if its a constant problem, like it was for me.

XP users see the bottom of this thread!

This is how you can boost your internet speed for all around better networking.

We are going to adjust:

-Chimney offload state (how your PC handels transfering data from the CPU to the Network adapter)

-Auto tuning level(how you recive window size based on network conditions)

-And congestion provider.

-Also you may need to adjust heuristics in order to keep changes.

First you want to Run command prompt as administrator.

Then type (netsh int tcp show global), hit enter this will show your global parameters.

By default they should look like this;
Chimney offload state: disabled
Recive Window Auto-Tuning Level: highly restricted
AD-On Congestion Controll Provider: none.

Now in the command line type : (netsh int tcp set global chimney=enabled).
Hit Enter You should get Ok. If not you typed it wrong or your not running as administrator.
Then type: (netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal). Hit Enter get Ok
Next Type: (netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp). Hit Enter get Ok.
When your done it should look the same as the pic shown above.

Go ahead and check your global parameters to see if your changes took place by agin typing in the command line (netsh int tcp show global) (Changes will work instantly check it by opening your browser or starting a game and finding a match you will notice a differince).

\\\\some network adapters require a reeboot to make changes but most do not////

Now Windows Heuristics may try to reset your changes when you restart. If this happens you will notice that your internet speed is back to normal. If you dont want to continue doing this, and you like your settings you will want to disable heuristics. Repete the steps then check your heuristics settings by typing in the command line (netsh int tcp show heuristics), or do this now to avoid complications. By default it should look as the pic below.(enabled)

To disable type in the command line (netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled) NO = just a space, hit Enter get Ok. As shown below.

Now exit and play! You will notice a faster browsing speed and game play as well as shortened time waiting on matchs and less lagg./yea

You may need to open your router as well. The method Here is to increase speed, and if your router or modem is previnting COD you need to open your NAT, mine allways says strick still, as before, but network connections work much faster, this method will increase the speed of data transferred and used, Not your firewall settings!
Here are the ports COD MW2 use for Steam:

Basic global options-

All begin with (netsh int tcp set global ?=?)

rss=
Recive side scaling:
disabled: Disable receive-side scaling.
enabled : Enable receive-side scaling.
default : Restore receive-side scaling state to

chimney=
Chimney offload state:
disabled: Disable Chimney offload.
enabled : Enable Chimney offload.
default : Restore Chimney offload state to system default

autotuninglevel=
Recieve window auto tuning level:
disabled: Fix the receive window at its default
highlyrestricted: Allow the receive window to grow beyond its default value, but do so very conservatively.
restricted: Allow the receive window to grow beyond its default value, but limit such growth in some scenarios.
normal: Allow the receive window to grow to accomodate almost all scenarios.
experimental: Allow the receive window to grow to accomodate extreme scenarios. WARNING: This can dramatically degrade performance in common scenarios and should only be used for research purposes.

congestionprovider=
Add on congestion controll provider:
none: Use the built-in standard congestion control algorithm.
ctcp: Use the add-on Compound TCP congestion control algorithm. default: Restore the selected provider to the system default.

encapability=
Enc capability:
disabled: Disable ECN Capability.
enabled : Enable ECN Capability.
default : Restore ECN Capability state to the system default.

timestamps=
RFC 1323 timestamps:
disabled: Disable RFC 1323 timestamps.
enabled: Enable RFC 1323 timestamps.
default: Restore RFC 1323 timestamps state to the system default.

XP Users
Also here is a TCPOtimizer. It works for Vista, 7, and Xp. This is an easier method. Although its one more program to run. It dose not install just runs. Just unpack and Run as administrator. Select custom to make your own configuration or use one of the presets. Make sure to set your actual connection speed and apply changes before you exit. You can adjust heuristics and many other factors as well verry easly.

Thanx to MPGH for an awsome Game hacking forum!

Great guide! thanks, but it screwed up my speed test! LOL

I remember my download speed was only 20Mb/s! /
Yes your download speed will increase drasticly. Thanx for the pic.
Tehehe, I added a before and after thingo if you need it
Awsome. Thank you.
Kewl ima try this out now. prolly this will get stickied XD
Oh, and when I put in netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled it kept coming up with 'Maybe?' instead of 'Ok.'It was really scary so I closed command prompt, re-opened and re-did the command and it worked! /

Make sure you open in admin or it will not performe the action. And if you type it wrong it will open different options, or something like you said "mabey". Yes, close and try agin if this happens. Thanx allot!

i dont c improvement. i have win 7 x64 bit. can anyone with win 7 test this out too? i went down like 6mbs of download speed :/
Then you should change it back if it is less. Your settings may be fine for your ISP and your pc. I will post a total list of options for your Global parameters, experiment till you find the best. You can allways change it back. If heuristics is on it will usualy (not allways) change it back at start up.
well i checked it on speed test.net but i didnt check it 'in game' i will do so now. i will be waiting for the new 1s u bring so i can test em thanks!
it worked now

edit :then it got back again

Sometimes you have no choice but to turn heuristics off
Yes! finally a good host thing also...my friends complain that my lobbies lag a lot..maybe this is the solution ???
