Simple question: Why do people get banned at certain post counts?

It's a tradition.
Traditionally, all MPGH users who achieve 1,337, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, etc.. 13,370 get a 1-2 day ban for post count.

dunt be a fag and ask for a ban at 1k 
its for weabos who spam too much
just a tradition its opitional for the most part although its just done in good fun.
