Of course Photoshop will be seemingly complicated as it's packed full with literally almost ANY essential tool one could ever want to make art.
It's not that difficult, just fiddle around with it. Honestly, whatever you're using now to make art, has been more complicated than it needs to for yourself and could have likely been achieved much easier if you just had been using Photoshop.

Just look at literally any tutorial for what you want to do, doesn't matter if it's for the Photoshop from 1998, it's still going to apply to what you'll do today, it's just going to look slightly different in layout and names.
