Pretty obvious not to use your Prod details for private servers.

If it were up to making a password for a private server, just get a generator to do it for you :/

Nothing wrong with decrypting the sha1 in db. Just need to do some edits with the client so forgot my password actually doesn't convert to sha1 string in db.

You dont seem to know the first thing about how much harm a pserver can cause.

People who do actually have atleast a little coding experience would know removing SHA1 encryption is real easy, however those are the people who do it for the right cause as they have determination to make their server you know... Something good, something heard. Yet there arent many people around like that in this section... I bet you a crap ton of people use same details for prod and pservers, thats because one wouldn't expect someone to use that to their advantage. Pservers are thought of an alt. to the original game, people think its safe and one sticky post wont change that.

Sure, removing SHA1 isnt all too bad, but a step by step tut how to do it is a different story and if you believe that thats okay, which i assume you do as you said you wouldve kept the thread open, then thats pretty idiotic...

I was going to leave it open solely due to the fact of servers being able to change a user's password easily in the database. Having to change it manually and then convert into a SHA1 string is much more difficult unless you make a tool to do it for you.

We've warned users not to use the same passwords they have on prod with private servers so ignoring the warning isn't really a legit reason for blame

I see your point, but many people dont read rules or warnings, a lot servers also advertise themselves on e.g. youtube.
I guess its a matter of one having access to their details by removing the encryption(eventhoremovingitaintneccessary) i agree with what you said about how it makes it easier to help people if they lost their pw and such, problem is that if a tutorial on how to remove it exists, some people who use it might use it for the wrong reason... Anyways im glad its been removed so I guess there isn't anything to argue about really.
