GTA O Exploit tools are introducing buffer overflow attacks and must be stopped.
Hello,
As we all know, GTA Online is chock full of folk who wish to get a leg up over everyone else. Even going so far as to spend tens or hundreds of USD to get virtual currency or whatever.
This is normal, and has occurred since I started playing GTA O. My personal philosophy is live and let live, even if I have to move to another server because a griefer is targeting me.
However, this has now changed. A user known as OfficialBatKat has been able to introduce what appears to be a buffer overflow attack. He crashed my game immediately.
Now, you might be wondering "Who cares?". You should. not because my game crashed and I lost out on a supply mission. It's a game, shit happens.
But these sorts of malicious attacks are NOT limited to in game effects. A large portion of malware, which is the umbrella term for viruses, trojans, worms, etc etc are often able to perform privilege escalation or even make large changes to things like your registry by doing the same thing: A buffer overflow attack. Even without actual malicious intent beyond crashing the game of someone you don't agree with, the buffer overflow could introduce a system crash, damage other running programs in memory, or cause heck with the system. I for one feel that when I play an online game, I shouldn't have to worry about the health of my overall system, nor worry if a user is weaponizing a buffer overflow attack to introduce malware onto my computer or damage it unnecessarily.
This has the ability to affect not only GTA O, but your computer as well, even if the user doesn't use it to introduce code or commands onto your system.
I am hereby requesting politely that creators of these cheat engines ensure you are NOT able to introduce attacks that extend well beyond the game itself. To do so is an attack on myself and other users, not our ingame characters. This is NOT acceptable use of any sort of programming.
Furthermore, I hope everyone who does write software for "hacking" GTA O understands the ethics involved. TOS are shit, and really violating them doesn't have ethical considerations. But this does.
Writing shoddy code that can introduce such effects like a buffer overflow and refusing to fix it is not the work of a professional software dev or programmer, nor an adult.
I implore you to fix this. Thanks for your time.
