[Help] Modding Designs

Hey, I have seen some amazing mod with awesome designs on them. I want to release a mod but with a cool design. How do you attach a design to a weapon? I know how to create a design but have no clue on combining a mod with a design. Is there a step-by-step process I can follow? A thread with instructions? Thanks for your help.

I am very new to PhotoShop. There are so many options. How do I use the filters and brushes correctly?
