It really depends on the store, but I don't think you can do it with a computer because at that price most places will open the box to inspect it.
But it could work for smaller electronics. I have a shrink wrap set up (impulse sealer, heat gun, pof bags) and I've done this at Walmart for sub $400 electronics. But you have to be really good at re-shrink wrapping the items. I tried it with a $700 iPad once and almost got caught, lol, so don't go for high priced items. If they say they're going to open the box or it looks like they're going to open it just say you changed your mind.
From my experience:
-it is best to not pay in cash, use a prepaid gift card (the ones that look like debit/credit cards) because they're more likely to attempt to open the box if you paid with cash. DON'T use your real credit/debit card because they may be able to trace the item back to you.
-Make sure there are several other items on your receipt and not just the item your returning.
-They are more likely to try to open Apple items (but not airpods).
-Walmart is the easiest place to do this at. If it's an electronic item, return it after the electronics department closes(~7pm) or they may call an electronics associate up to inspect the item.
-Do not hit the same store too many times.
