C help

I am reading the book hacking the art of exploitation 2nd edition and i know the basics like int float char etc. not very far into the book but I want a short book(under 700 pgs.) . when it comes to books i have the attention span of a 5 year old. . that only happens with ok books. this book is great and teaches me good c code but so far its mostly directions for roads and stuff like that. i was wondering if any of u guys have a book suggestion for me. also which is better c or c++ i heard c++ is basically c except harder and has more options.

C++ = C + extentions, so you can pretty much write C in it and it will work, along with neat extra stuff
