Well, if you loose your dick, you won't die. Doctors know a way to make a place for you to piss. If you loose your stomach, you could die. It depends again, if the acids have burned away at the area around the stomach/leak. Your stomach helps you digest food and you're fucked if you loose that. Usually, the injury is below the stomach but just above or around the legs.

The rat lived because it didn't loose it's heart and brain and lungs. It was in pain, and it was probably alive through the whole thing until it bled out or was killed by a fatal blow. It would have died maybe 1-3 minutes later after being torn in half like that.

The rat could have lived without the majority of its lower half, for at least a few seconds.

It would need to get chopped in half lower than the shoulders so it wouldn't be paralyzed, but it could still swim if it didn't go into shock
