❗ MW2 Modding/PSJailbreak
Base Requirements
First on the PS3 firmware 3.41. If you have one on hand, GREAT. But if you updated because you wanted to say, play online or log on to PSN then you're out of luck. The PS3 is a very complex machine. There is NO feasible way to downgrade and (as of now) PSJailbreak does not work on 3.42. It may never work again, but hacks have a way of generating enough momentum to carry through. That's not a guarantee, more of a speculation. But the bottom line is: IF YOUR PS3 IS ON FIRMWARE 3.42 YOU CAN NOT RUN A CHALLENGE LOBBY! NOW STOP ASKING ABOUT IT IN THE SHOUTBOX!
Compatible Devices
Android Phones
Almost all android phones are compatible with PSGroove, which is an open-source PSJailbreak.
So if you have a phone that runs Android OS then you probably will have the ability to jailbreak your PS3. I actually don't know how to do it, but I would assume you just need to download and install an application on your phone, so Google it or go here
iPhone/iTouch
Another device that has come up is Apple's iPhone/iTouch.
To use it you need:
An iPhone 2/3G or an iTouch MA model (1st gen)
3.1.2 firmware jailbroken with Blackra1n
A few programs for your itouch
To use this you literally are going to install another OS on your iDevice it is quite difficult, there is alot that can go wrong, so if ou're not ocmfortable with doing that please don't waste your iPhone, you could screw something up. If you are the kind of person that is going to ask: well I have an iTouch 3G can I do it? Well NO! The problem with newer devices is that with a newer bootrom, they can't install a secondary OS. And you probably can't downgrade either as Apple has indeed made it so that you need a specific liscense and boot information to downgrade. So if you don't fit those criteria then sorry this won't work for you. If you are in this category and want to use your iphone/itouch go here.
USB Dongle
Another option is using a usb dongle similar to the PSJailbreak device. I don't fully understand how this works, but I think you flash it with the Jailbreak and it runs upon being plugged in. It's similar to just an exposed motherboard, as it's a pretty big chip but I honestly don't know. I'm pretty sure we have a thread on this somewhere and if anyone knows where this is, please feel free to post it in a reply. I think it can be purchased here though
Other Compatible Devices:
There are quite a few other devices including, but not limited to, the Nokia 9000, the Palm Pre, the Motorola Droid and even a TI-84 Plus/Plus Silver Edition. For a full list of devices compatible click here
Actually Running The Lobby
OK, Now if you want to actually host the lobby (and actually have the base requirements) I'd recommend going to this thread and reading through it a couple times to make sure you know what you're doing.
How to host.
Requirements:
PlayStation 3 running on v3.41 firmware
JailBreak Chipset or Dongle
PS3 Connected to the Internet
Backup Manager
PS3 FTP Server
FileZilla
HexWorkshop
Modded Patch
Boot your PS3 normally (without JailBreak)
Delete the MW2 patch from your 'Game Data' folder
Boot up MW2 from the disc, not backup
You should be prompted to download the v1.11 patch for MW2; download and install the patch
After the install for the patch completes, quit MW2, turn off your PS3
Unplug your PS3, plug in your JailBreak device, plug your PS3 back in, and preform the JailBreak
Run PS3 FTP Server
On your PC, run FileZilla. Navigate to '/dev_hdd0/game/blus30377/USDIR/' and look for 'patch_mp.ff'
Download the 'patch_mp.ff' to your desktop from your PS3. Open it with HexWorkshop.
Open the downloaded patch (the modded one) with HexWorkshop.
With the modded patch in HexWorkshop, hit 'CRTL+A' on your keyboard to select all (highlight everything). Hit 'CRTL+C'.
Go to the legitimate 'patch_mp.ff' file in HexWorkshop, hit 'CRTL+A' on your keyboard to select all (highlight everything) and then 'CRTL+V'. Accept the changes (if prompted).
Save changes to the legitimate patch (File > Save).
Back on FileZilla, upload the patch you just saved from HexWorkshop and replace the one on your PS3 (overwrite).
Go back to your PS3, exit PS3 FTP Server (quit game).
Turn off your PS3. Turn it back on and JailBreak it.
Start up MW2, go to a private match, and you'll have the modifications.
