Thats what i ment
In the class file ItemBed.class and EntityPlayer.class it shows in the code that it sets a new spawn point and sets the compass to spin towards.

It might have at some point when they were still buggy, but it has been confirmed by jeb (and notch iirc) that the bed spawns and compasses are still buggy. Read: Not working.

after you sleep in it it becuase your spawn point.

I might not use those but In multiplayer it would show peoples houses so maps are bad
