Nice spam noob.
In my opinion, Microsoft Visual.net c++ 2008 is the best.
I think it's really up to personal choice. I started with Dev-C++ and then moved on to an Express edition. Also, do indeed be careful of spam messages, or flames etc.
at the end of the day, if it works it works.

I've been coding for about 3 years now. I have been across the spectrum of Compilers. In my altruistic preference... BORLAND CPP!!! Easy to learn, Fast, Debugs with ease, I like the highlighting, I touch it some times (in that special pre-process).

The error messages are sometimes clearer with different compilers.
I use borland 5.5, it's free and it works nicely. I like using it from the command line, so I can have a nifty little file called Compile.cmd that I just put in a folder with my source.
