Hello and welcome to my complete tutorial on how to use successfully my Rez extractor and injector to make a mod.
1. Getting ready
Download the extractor and the injector from this post.
Download the DTX Tools from this post (at the bottom).
Open the Zip and extract it to your Desktop. Put all files except the Folder in C:\Program files\dtx tools. When you moved them execute the file "DTX Thumbnails Install.bat" That helps you to see thumbnails of the textures. It would help if you'd link that folder to your Desktop. You should have Photoshop CS3 or CS4 installed otherwise you cant edit the dtx's. Just put the 3 dlls into the root directory of PS and pull the Plug-Ins folder in the root directory. Now unzip the extractor and injector to C:\Program files\Z8Games\Crossfire\rez. Also make a link to you desktop.
2. Extracting textures
Now you run "REZ Extractor by -Sp0ng3b0b-.exe". A black command prompt will appear. Now enter RF017.REZ(thats the rez where the gunskins and charskins are in). You will be asked what type of files are in this Rez. Press '2'
because we know whats in there. Press enter and the files are going to be extracted. A folder named RF017.REZ_textures will be created and filled with textures. Now you can browse them, if you installed the Thumbnail viewer correctly you will see small picture previews if you change from details to Thumbnails in you explorer.
3. Searching and Opening
If you found a texture you want to mod, you can view it in big size. Just doubleclick it and select DTXViewer.exe in your DTXTools folder. If you want to mod that one Pull it on the desktop. And import it into Photoshop. Edit as you like it or, how i do it, export it as PNG and edit it in gimp
When you edited you image as you like it, save your new texture from photoshop and name it ex. m700tex_new.dtx but dont overwrite the old one. Important: Select the dtx format when exporting. When you click save you will be asked how to compress the file. Select S3TC DTX1 (8:1) and set Mipmaps to 1.
4. Injecting
Now you have an old and a new texture on you desktop. Just pull them into the Rez folder where the injector is. Now Run the injector. It asks you what you want to replace. Press '2' and press enter 2 times. Now enter the name of the old texture ex: 'm700tex_old.dtx' and press enter. And now enter the name of the new texture ex: 'm700tex_new.dtx'. Press enter a last time and it will be injected. Wait a few seconds and your ready to play.
5. HGWC
If you want to view your mod ingame you need a bypass for HGWC(it checks your files). There is one included in Geforce hydra. Or use undetected xtrap bypass. Its your choice.
6. Publishing your mod
If you want to release your mod to the community, make a zip with the two textures, old and new one. Thats enough. Make some screens, 2 virusscans and make a new Thread.
