Do what he said and try running Cross Fire from CF_G4BOX.exe

Are you running as administrator? Update your anti-virus software, too. Make sure the firewall is accepting all pathways of the crossfire section. Like said, it might be blocking some connections which is making you unable to play.
You can try setting compatibility mode for CF_G4Box.exe
Go to your crossfire folder which is located in C:\Program Files\Z8Games\Cross Fire, and look for a file called CF_G4Box.exe.
Right click on it, go to properties, then go to the compatibility tab.
Then check mark that box that says "Run program in compatibility mode for" and in the drop down menu select the highest compatibility mode given. For XP Users, the highest should be Windows 2000, and for Vista and 7 users it should be Windows XP. Does not matter on which Service Pack it shows. Highest one benefits the most.
