Sports are a very good way to become popular at school, most of the popular/social kids will be into football and basketball usually, and at the games people will have no choice but to notice you if you are a player (don't suck ofc). Girls in high school usually like guys who play sports or are funny and guys like to flock around guys who have girls so they can catch some leftovers. So ya, sports work good.
