2003 to 2011
I've got some source code that's been complied with visual studio 2003. Curious if it's better to update to 2011 visual studio or just keep the projects in 2003. Only thing that i can see is fixing warnings and errors as they come. Is there really any benefit from doing this? Updating librarys as well.
Besides the code more strictly complying to the standards and optimization being better, along with better intellisense support?

Hmm...
Noob c&p...
There is a site where you can do it online...
forgot the name.
Are you calling me a noob? where do you get that i copy and pasted anything? There is no site that can covert 2003 code to 2012 standards. Demon explained pretty much what i was thinking in when one does update source code from previous compilers.

btw thankyou Hell_Demon!!!!
There has only been one standard change since 2003 (C++03 to C++11). Previous code does not need to be "converted" because there are only a few features that have been deprecated and I highly doubt most people here use the more esoteric (but not really, just in this community) portions of the STL, let alone the STL. Unless you have been purposely looking for the non-standard constructs in the C++ compiler and using them (I highly doubt this), your code should already be C++11 compliant.
Very true Forvea. Compliers are compliers c++ is C++. But this source code contains a lot of outside librarys and code technique back in 2003.

Like a example this project uses directx sdk from 2007. where we are on 2010. Just something I've always been interested in wondering about. Ive compared code from 2003 to say 2012 and its really not much different as you just stated.

Only problem i see is this source code is over 1.7gigs big so its not just as simple as using c++11 because you know the warnings and errors are due to come.

Do you thing it would affect performance at all?
