Free or cheap vps needed

Hi im looking for a really cheap or free vps. specs doesn't really matter just want to run some software 24/7 or maybe even try hosting a game server sometimes.

Bump every 24 hours XDD, joking but, the only good ones are the ones you pay for and are quite expensive.

well as said i doesn't really have to be good aslong as it's cheap

not something big just a 1.6 server when im hosting a lan party or such. anyway if you have any tips on good providers or cheap ones i would appreciate it.

Eh the only cheap ones I know of won't even support more than three text documents. I'd say go for a reputable host such as Namecheap or Hostgator and look at their VPS packages. At the very least you can search for VPS comparison charts.

ok final question. i have extremely small experience with linux but the prices of a linux vps is so much lower that it might be worth getting a linux one?

Absolutely. Steam games support servers for Linux, CS servers have mostly been hosted on Linux servers themselves. It takes less resources to run CentOS and variants so they're significantly cheaper. However, the success you have running Windows applications varies.

so some windows applications i might be able too just start like that while some will not work?

You do not want to be using a VPS to run a game server.

it would have to be ridiculously expensive and still be unstable.

All game servers run on individual servers. I have no idea where you got that information from but it is wrong.

Yes. Using Wine people have success running Windows applications on Linux but many programs do not install properly with Wine. It's a hit or miss.
