Yes, in the middle and old age religion was a good way to keep the people under control, since nobody knew what was goin' on for real.

If you don't pray, you go to hell. Not praying is a huge taboo in most religions, but because we're in the 21th century, christians don't give a fuck about it anymore and call themselves christian even though they don't do a shit for their religion.
Also:
Would you rather have muslims/jews defending you as a christian against other muslims/jews or would you rather have neutral people protecting you, taking your life as their primary goal and not your beliefs?
