Need info on this "server-sided" stuff

Ok, so a lot of people are saying stuff like "you cant get items automatically its SERVERSIDED". Well, does this mean that the server you're PLAYING ON controls it, or a valve server somewhere on earth controls it? Because if the server you're playing on controls item drops then couldn't you just OWN a server and drop a bunch of items for yourself? And can someone just tell me what this server-sided stuff is all about?

Unfortunately you cannot have Item dropping servers, it doesn't work like that. However, there are achievement servers that you literally log into and just leave it for the night. Normally, "server-side", means it is the steam/valve servers that have a percentage to drop an item.

This being said, hosting a gaming server will not allow you to increase or decrease the amount of time between drops, choose which item drops, or even whom they drop for.

So to hack item drops, you need to hack the tf2 steam/valve server that declares item drops?
And is this impossible?

Need to know what? As far as anyone knows it is all handled on one of Valve's servers which is located near the servers that handle their store transactions, etc.

If someone is going to go to the trouble of messing with that stuff I would think they would rather go for the steam store servers, rather then some hats. Granted the hats are valuable, but millions of credit cards are even more so.

This....all of this

Hacking into the Steam/Valve servers is going to be damn near impossible. Well, unless you have been hacking for a VERY long time, but based on your question, I would say not to even try it. It is illegal and you will get into trouble for it.
