You gain less LP if you're up against people who 'riot's matchmaking system' believes should be an 'easy win' for you.
Usually, people who have a negative W/L or duoq with people lower then them and lost games their MMR becomes horrible and you just end up playing with fucktards for the rest of your life.

You have like 3-4 losses at 0 LP before you get demoted.

Also, if you get promoted, you have a small grace period where you can't get demoted when you get to the next division.

It is all about MMR. If your MMR is on level of Bronze II then you will get low lp on Bronze I. You have to win couple times more than loose to get your MMR on level of Bronze I to get more than you loose.
