😠 Singeleplayer Survival Blocks

Hello, I've had this problem for a while and was hoping it would be fixed for me in the 1.5 update. Basically I can break the wood blocks and dirt blocks and then they drop a small block I can pick up. I made a wood pickaxe and then tried breaking rock/cobblestone but they will not drop for me no matter what I try. The same also applies for when I try to get coal with a wood pickaxe. The only time I have been able to collect the cobblestone blocks is when a creeper blows up and then rocks are dropped. I've watched numerous tutorials about mining rock with pickaxe, etc, but they just won't drop for me. The weird thing is that I have the same problem whether I play on my macbook air which I downloaded the program on or if I play it in a browser on any other computer so I'm thinking it might be a problem with my account. Can someone please help me out, the game is playable for a bit but not being able to gather cobblestone or coal really limits the playing of the game.

why are you playing on the 1.5 update? there's 1.7.2 already! its much better

Tried resetting files?
