It would take carding 19 gift codes to be classified as a Class A misdemeanor, and 56 codes for a third degree felony. Don't mark me on this, but I'm pretty sure people who are carding to get codes, are carding 50+ A DAY. Meaning in one day, you have a third degree felony, and in 3-4 days, you've gone over the $5,000. Once again, to sell them for about 3$ each.
My suggestion is to not do it and save yourself some time.
NOTE: If Mojang finds out the codes were carded (Which they usually do) they are REVOKED after about a week.
