(2a -6) + (5a + 155)=
2a + 5a -6 + 155=
7a + 149.

Well made one in class, this was the right awnser dont ask me how i did it.
How do i solve such problems?
It has to be made shorter and remove the (...) So it becomes a simple sum like 7a+149 << the correct awnser on the question.

Maybe for you, but i suck at math, I just don't get how you do that(the steps to follow). Could you give me the steps to walk tho, so i maybe can understand how your doing it?

Do you know your order of operations? PEMDAS (Parentheses -> Exponents -> Multiplication -> Division -> Addition -> Substract).
Equation: 2(a-3)+5(a+31)
2(a-3) means multiply everything in the parenthethes by 2. You have distribute that 2 to everything inside of the parentheses
2 * a = 2a
2 * -3 = -6
So now you're left with: 2a - 6 + 5(a + 31)
Once again, 5(a - 31) means multiply everything in the parentheses by 5. Remember distribute a.k.a. FOIL (First-> Inner-> Outer-> Last)!
5 * a = 5a
5 * 31 = 155
So now you're left with: 2a - 6 + 5a - 155
Simplify and combine like terms:
2a + 5a = 7a
-6 + 155 = 149

Yes. You are correct. Distribute the outside term with ALL terms inside of the parentheses. The outside number isn't always just a number, but the same principal applies e.g.
2x(a² + -4a + 4) =
2xa² - 8xa + 8x
2(a+b)=2a + 2b.

Lol, Its kinda hard to understand if you get 2(a-3)+5(a+31) And the awnser from the teacher, without any explanation.. If you'd told me it in this way, i would have come a far way. thanks i guess..
