Varus v. Ryze difficulty rating?
As an avid Varus player myself, the revelation of Varus having an overall difficultly of 2 while Ryze holds a 7 is slightly aggravating.

What do you guys think? Allow me to vent my train of thought, and then respond for yourselves. For starters, Phreak responded, defending these new changes since Varus is easy to learn if you play a lot of marksmen. I quote

"It's not 1 to 1 with the scaling, but most Marksmen are actually pretty easy: Once you learn one, you basically learn them all. You're roughly as good as a first-time Varus as you are as a 30-time Varus (compared to other champions)."

Meanwhile, Ryze is given a 7 because "Ryze has basically no comparison champion. You have to learn Ryze specifically."

Then why are other marksmen given a high difficulty rating? Look at Lucian or Draven, both with a difficulty of 8. If "you learn one, you basically learn them all", then why are these champions so high up in difficulty? Wouldn't it make sense, if that statement was true, to make all the marksmen have around the same difficulty? Secondly, given the meta right now, Varus, being a mid game immobile adc, is incredibly hard to play with against high mobility, hyper carry/early game champions, such as Tristana, Corki, Lucian, etc. Wouldn't that make him harder to play in these circumstances? Also, look at the second part, where he states that a first time Varus is as good as a 30 time Varus. I've played my fair share of Varus, and I can say that is not true. There is a distinct line between a first time and 30 time, evidenced by the Q and ult usage/accuracy. So what about Ryze, then? Does he really have no comparison champion? Ryze didn't just get the nickname of being a face roll champion out of spite, I would think, but rather because he is quite simple to play. Of course, this is where I lose my credibility, since I don't play Ryze, at all, really, so I wouldn't know much. My final point to make would be this; Ok, suppose Varus is actually a difficultly 2 champion, why is someone like ASHE a 4 difficulty? She doesn't have a stacking passive that requires her to pop it and get a combo out, she doesn't have any constant skillshots except her ult, which can be considered the only reason why she is such a high difficulty. If Varus was an easier champion, then why not set HIM as one of the introduction champions so people can "learn them all"?

tl:dr, just a Varus player ranting on these difficulty ratings.
Well, I would agree Draven is harder to learn compared to the other ADCs. Phreak's explanation makes sense but not for newer players who actually utilize the difficulty ratings.
I'm pretty sure Lucian & Draven has a higher rating because for Draven you have to know how to trade and catch your axes at the same time and lucian you have to know how to maximize your damage in trades by using a skill shot then auto attacking.

I use to play Varus a bit myself, wasn't really hard, but not as easy as ashe IMO.
Mechanics are the biggest difference, and how you utilize your skills too
Yea, Ryze is a all-lock-on-skills champ, but still he takes mechanics to play. Same with Varus, but the main point of adc's is to kite and farm. If you can do that with lucian, you can do that with most adc's (except for draven, because he's just special that way, and ashe, cuz she's a shitty champ)
Lucian isnt that hard, but I always have trouble with draven
In my opinion Ryze is way easier than Varus not only because of the abilities but also because of the playstyle

Agree with that, I closely only play Ryze Top, since I don't like being a tank and it was just an extremely easy champion to learn and can carry pretty hard

though I totally suck at top; http://i.gyazo.com/dcc24f031e490ed47231c2ef29ed7f5e.png

Varus is way more complicated, his mana management, his combo, kitting, his positionnement is more important as well, since he has no escape so against a gap closer...etc
Dude, Faker recommends learning how to play Ryze as he teaches you when to use abilities and in what order. (not just faceroll keyboard)
