If you feel you want to resort into save-game editing I do have a pretty good tutorial posted here as well.
It was written for PC, but it also applies for XBOX, you just have to pick which save format you want to use (Little Endian or Big Endian, one is PC and one is XBOX)

When it comes to gear, it's not really a matter of what you have, it's what stats you have has gotten when it was rolled and what type of skills you've picked, and since that is based on your playstyle there's really no definitive answer. The stats of the gear are based on what level it was picked up/dropped, among other things, such as what parts are being used in the item which gives them their stats in the first place, the different parts are the different "factions" such as Dahl, Hyperion, Bandit etc. and they all have different rolls.
The other alternative is to invite more players to help out with it, I would solo it for you but I just recently had to sell my XBOX.
