As long as the fighting stops, who cares? Israel is a retaliatory nation, meaning they won't attack first without reason, but when they do they will keep going until they see no immediate threat. Having so many hostile nations surrounding their borders doesn't really help with this, so using weapons as a trade off may be the only working possibility. That and it is saying "hey, Egypt, see this shit we're giving you? Yeah, we've got better, so you can have it, oh, and by the way, don't mindlessly attack our ally". It's a scare tactic as well.
