I'm assuming they did it this way to prevent people from exiting the game or changing any system settings on the Xbox. Demos usually run better on PCs no matter what system they're running on. Less issues to deal with since they would have to rewrite some of the xbox software to prevent demo users from changing stuff.

They are running better than a Xbox One, but the demo is supposed to show what a Xbox One can do, not what their PC can do.

The fact that they went the length to conceal a PC beneath the cabinet, and actually display a running but unhooked Xbox means that they probably wanted people to believe the game was running off of it. If they truly didn't care they'd just put a PC in plain sight, just like that glass-cased paperweight, and run the demo for the gameplay. It's the 'Xbox Showcase' though, the game and its developer are old hat and irrelevant to the booth overall. The whole purpose is for Microsoft to slap down their console on a pedestal and sing 'Look what our system can do', when it's not even hooked up at all.

Maybe, but I still think it doesn't faze Xbox fans one bit. It's embarrassing sure but they clearly didn't go to much length to conceal the fact they were running Windows.
