You want to avoid doing any sort of damage to your weapon.
So I recommend you play a lot of mutation and hero mode.
EM is also acceptable, too.

In terms of mode between MM/HM and EM.
MM/HM gives off EXP and GP, and does not make it count towards your KD. At the same time, you don't need to repair your weapons, etc.

EM - Doesn't require you to fix weapons, but everything you do counts towards your K/D.

You could also try doing some sur.veys. Get 2.6k ZP and then buy 20k GP from the item mall.
