Buy a cheap mic and put it on record, then talk and ask questions like "What's your name?" etc etc.
Open up the recording in something like Sony Vegas and look at the wave bars, increase the volume and see if anything's answered back to you

Was in Intermediate (school inbetween primary and high school), trying to turn a computer on by the back switch. I feel that red switch that is really small and is usually covered up tap, flick the switch, hear a pop, spark flies out the side of tower, fried something, doesn't turn on, computer screwed.

That red switch sets the voltage for the power supply.
