💡 Help needed for PC building

Im thinking about building up my own PC because my old laptop Im using is getting weak.
A few years ago I was able to play high end games on that laptop! I thought every game wouldnt be a problem, but that changed.
Now I cant play any game, without my laptop is overheating. Its so hot, I could fry food on it.
So I decided to ask a friend who knows a lot about PCs. He created a list with all things I need.

• CPU - AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor (~175$)

• CPU Cooler - Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (~28$)

• Motherboard - Asus - PRIME B350-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard (~90$)

• Memory - Kingston - ValueRAM 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (~158$)

• Storage - Kingston - A400 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (~62$)/ Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (~60$)

• Video Card - EVGA - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB SC GAMING Video Card (~320$)

• Case - Fractal Design - Focus G (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (~40$)

• Power Supply - EVGA - BQ 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (~56$)

• Optical Drive - Samsung - SH-224GB/BSBE DVD/CD Writer (~15$)

Total: ~1.004$

This build should be able to handle the upcoming games. But do I really need all of it? I dont even know If I really need a DVD/CD writer, everything is digital in this times.
I would really thank you If you help me improving this list!

No, you definitely won't need a DVD drive. I'd spend the money you are saving from that on higher frequency RAM. Ryzen CPU's really benefit from fast RAM, and 2400 is quite slow.

try getting 2x8GB ram or just 2x4GB and upgrade later because dual channel will help a lot. Don't get 1x16GB unless you plan on upgrade with either another 1x16gb or more

i would def change to 2x8GB sticks of at least 3000Mhz Ram
this will be giving you some extra performance for basically not much more cost

apart from that the build is pretty nice and well rounded

Definitely recommend two ram sticks for ryzen. Depending on the kit you might not need to spend the extra bucks to get an official 3000 mhz kit. Some 2400mhz overclock pretty well to 2933mhz which is a decent boost already.
The rest of build is neat even though ram/gpu prices are still high unfortunately.
