@Lehsyrus is correct. Not only was that guy incorrectly thinking that life is unfair to everyone in the same way, the point he tries to make is in itself incorrect. Fairness is mostly situational and is not always comparative or relative.

To put it simply, if life were to be unfair in a particular way to everyone (say we all eventually get shot), that does not make the action (being shot) a positive or fair action. If nobody has done anything to warrant receiving such a negative action against them then that is unfair. If someone were to do a misdeed before being shot than that will be viewed as fair. Not to mention all the other factors like different amounts of "fairness", some people seemingly benefiting entirely from life rather than life being unfair.

I think the saying has been whored to death. All of a sudden people think that life is unfair simply because some people are "rich" whilst others are not. Many people are rich because life presented them with opportunity and they seized that opportunity and benefited from it (this is fair) whereas others will pass up that opportunity (this is also fair). They also forget that life may be "unfair" to people born into wealth or prosperity. I would say that life is unfair to them as well as they have not done anything to warrant such wealth. Think about it, you wouldn't say life is fair for them, it would be unfair.

TL;DR too many people don't know the meaning of unfair.

Commandment 11 or Newton's 4th Law (whatever you prefer): LIFE IS NOT FAIR.
