I will spare most of the details since you do not need them. My father was told that he only has a short time to live, but he can pull through.

I went to see him, and we talked like normal, but he looked at me with the most serious face I have ever seen him and said:

Please, act normal in front of me. I have to deal with your mother and sister acting differently, the last thing I need is my own son to treat me different. This is my only request.

I want to act as if nothing happened, but he should know it's not that easy. My father and I are pretty close, and we planned to go to Hellfest in June. Now, I don't see that happening.

Should I try my hardest to do what he wants me to? I don't know if I should or shouldn't.

You should, it's probably not easy for him and definitly not when everybody treats him differently now. Try your best to do it. Best of luck man.

Honor his request, if these final few moments of your fathers life are going to be spent in a good way then the right thing to do would be to so what he wants. I wish him all the best.

The worst thing a dying man can get is pity, honor his wish for the most part, but have a chat with him as well. I'd tell him that I'd treat him normally, but do remember that he is your father, and it's only human and natural to be hit hard by the news. As your father, he does still have a responsibility to understand and sympathize with how your family is feeling, even if he is man that'd prefer not to be pitied. There's always a butter-zone between pitying him too much, and letting him slip away as if nothing happened, both ends being a terrible result. Talk with him, and find a combination between treating him like a normal person, but also accepting the gravity of the situation.

I know that it may be hard to act normal in front of someone that is sick and looks as if he's dying, but don't let that change anything. Be who you are and have fun while doing it, let your father spend his last moments in the greatest ways with his beloved son.
