My advice, look through old bases to see how some thing's are done (how i learnt d3d(DirectX) and learn ASM(assembly) <--- VERY IMPORTANT there are many tutorials on how to update addresses and there are a few that will teach you how to do basic things, the more advanced stuff comes in time and experience
