You will know if they investigate with the carrier. Usually all companies investigate internally, but that hardly matters. Carrier investigations are what you worry about if you want to do multiple with the same carrier.

Gamestop isn't instant. Although, guaranteed. The rep do not have the power to refund, hence they forward the refund request to the other team and they end up refunding you in a few days.

I got the confirmation regarding my refund on Friday over the phone. Haven't received any email or refund yet. Should I call back to check or wait a few more days?

No, you don't usually get an email regarding the refund. Just wait 3-5 days from when they said they refunded and it should be in your bank. If nothing by then, call them back.
