It's cheaper to purchase a weapon from an actual business not individuals. People who are selling peer to peer are always expensive because they want more money than the pawn shop will give them, and they know a lot of people who purchase arms through this method are doign so because they can't legally have a weapon however there is no paper work or vetting in these situations as it's a constitutional right.
One of the reasons why there is an increase rate of mass shootings, especially school shootings is because how readily available guns are. For criminals they can easily buy a weapon from some guy on the internet, or even buy them off the internet. Because there is no background checks, no vetting, no regulation at all. However a non-criminal will pay for a lot more guns and ammo at a hell of a lot cheaper price and as a result carry around dozens of arms and clips. In human psychology, we know humans will indulge themselves when they have an abundance of something. In nature humans would eat/drink lots of food/water when they came across a source so they could stock their bodies up with nutrients. If you ever had a big bag of weed or potato chips you probably understand what I'm talking about. You can't just smoke one joint, or eat one potato chip, you gotta smoke more/eat more than just one. Idk anyone who eats a single potato chip then closes t he bag. That's because of their instinctive nature. The same applies to arms apparently. When humans know they have a bunch of arms, they want to use them. And when a human is disturbed and they have an easily accessible option to transfer their thoughts into actions they will do so. This is why governments oppress people, like in NK. It's so the people don't have an easily accessible option to overthrow their government like in a democracy. Therefor nobody tries to do so.
The whole issue here is that plebs will be plebs. Nothing you can do about that since we focus so heavily on individuality. That's an inevitable ramification of giving people a sense of individuality and freedom independent from the larger group of people.

We already have a "black" market like never before. A legal gun can be legally sold to a criminal. Did I mention legally? Because as long as uncle sam doesn't see Joeblow is a felon, then he can go on craigslist buying AR-15s from tom dick and harry all day long with 0 background checking and 0 regulation.
In fact, most illegal methods of redistributing weapons has declined rapidly over the past years. It used to be gangs, mafias, and underground arms dealers who bought/stole bulk supplies of arms then sold them on the streets. Now in days that has changed a lot. As I layed out in my post above, most criminals get their guns through legal sources. They can make their guns illegal by removing the serial, but that's only if they're trying to sell the gun to a legal place that does vetting like pawnshop/walmart/gunstore. In many cases people who aren't criminals are the ones who end up committing or promoting criminals to use guns in these crimes. As I said in my post above, when a readily available option is there you are more likely to take it. When you have an abundance of something, you're more likely to use it. This is basic human behavior, and we can't sensibly expect humans to defy their nature on a broader basis.
